Melon, like some other autistic people, sometimes gets thoughts that become fixed in her head, she cant move on from them. Weve noticed this happening a lot more recently. We will ask her to stop doing something (such as kicking the radiator), she hears us, she knows she has to stop, she even understands why, but she has to do it a few more times before stopping. Its like a compulsion. She has to do it, she NEEDS to. Take this morning. Melon is wearing her onesie (she calls it her Pudsey clothes - it has Pudsey bear on). She has been grinning, a lot. Shes been out to the paddling pool, stood by it. Grinned at the pool, grinned at me, and said put Pudsey clothes in the water. Ive explained why she shouldnt do that, Ive checked that she understands it, we fetched her swimming costume instead. But shes still grinning at the onesie, grinning at the paddling pool, looking at me. She knows it. I know it. The idea is in her head, its not going anywhere. At some point this morning, Ill get distracted, and that onesie is going to take the plunge. #perseverating #splash #mypudseyclothesareallwet
