Member Question: Hello my name is Debbie Owens - I am a 57 year old woman and have had what they now are calling Fibromyalgia for about 25 years now but my rheumatologist seems to think that I have had it all my life. At first way back when I was told oh dont worry it is just costal condritis but the pain and muscle spasms got worse so then they said oh you just have Fibromyalgia and not to worry. NOT TO WORRY - MY BODY WAS BEING RAVAGED BY PAIN AND SO MANY MUSCLE SPASMS THAT I DID NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO. My rheumatoligist put me on Elavil 50mg 2 tabs twice a day. Well it does help a bit with the muscle spasms but not alot. Every time I bring up the subject of fibromyalgia I just get the dismissed look from the doctors. Now I am losing my muscle contol and believe that this may not even be Fibromyalgia but could be MS. I have tried a numberr of times to broach the doctors about this possibility but they wont even give me the time of day where this concerns. I am in a wheelchair due to leg and back problems which I believe to be in part due to the muscle lose. I can no longer hold my head up straight as before I realize it i have my chin down on my chest and have to pick my head up in my hand and hold it there for a bit and then I start all over again. I have been told that exercise is the answer but how does one that is in constant pain and has muscles spasming all over my body sometimes a few at a time all together. Is there anything you can tell me that maybe if I approach my doctor from a different angle she might be at least willing to listen to what I am saying. My formal training is in the medical field as a nurse and I have never stopped learning things every day although I can no longer work out in the field and had to stop work in 1991. If there is any ideas on this matter could you please send me a message before the end of the month when I see the doctor and maybe this time I can go in armed with some information that she will at least listen to. I am very low income, cant afford all the natural meds and I live in a very small community where we have the doctor we have or none at all and it is sooooo far to go to the city(halifax) Thank you so much for having this site here for so many sufferers. - Debbie.
