Memorable Musical Momensts - Easy Listening - If you have John Lennon and the rest of the Beatles arguing your case, chances are that you are something a bit special musically. Even so, the Fab Four had to lean quite hard on manager Brian Epstein to sign on Cilla Black, Her first release, penned by the Beatles, had modest success on her home charts in the UK, but then with a stroke of serendipity Anyone Who Had a Heart landed on her desk. The song was first recorded by Dione Warwick, who had enjoyed great success with it in the States. Black did a recording at Abbey Road studios, and quick as a flash produced the song that was to become the biggest hit by a female artist in the UK during the 60s. She ruled the British charts for a protracted period with the song, which also shot to number 1 in Ireland, New Zealand and South Africa. Interestingly enough, Warwicks version was released in the UK during the chart run of Blacks rendition, and for one week, there was actually a third version of the song making an appearance on the British charts.
