Memorial Day, Ill start with a Thank You to our military for all they do to help protect our county. Unfortunately Memorial Day has changed my families life forever. Today, three years ago, Gabriella walked into the Emergency Room of Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia. This was the beginning of a very long yet short journey. Over the course of the previous few weeks, Gabby was having problems with her speech and her balance. We knew something was off but didnt know what. We took her to the pediatrician, saw a few specialists, and had an appointment for an MRI after the holiday weekend. Over Memorial Day weekend, she was getting worse. On Memorial Day we were trying to decide what we wanted to do together as a family. While we were talking, the girls were playing Knectimals on the X-box. Gabby didnt want to get off the couch. She didnt want to use the stairs to go be with her sisters. She had choked on her food the night before. I called the pediatrician and asked if we should go to the ER. He didnt really know how to answer since he wasnt fully aware of Gabbys condition. I gave him a brief run down and said, If this was your child, would you go? The answer was YES. We called in my parents to watch the other two girls while John, Gabby, and I made our way to CHOP. We werent really thrilled to be spending the holiday in the ER but atleast we could get some answers. So holding our hands, Gabby walked herself into the ER. We didnt leave the hospital until the beginning of July! Please take the time to watch the video that was put together for our family. This will show you exactly what childhood cancer can do to a child and a family. (You can not watch it on a mobile devise) Today when you are sitting around the BBQ with your friends and family, please share Gabbys story. Please share other childrens story that are battling or have battled cancer. They too need to be remembered since they never had the chance to grow up. The Get Well Gabby Foundation is collecting a dollar a day in May to help these children. Please find it in your heart to make a donation in honor of someone you want to remember this Memorial Day. You can visit getwellgabby.org to make the donation online or you can mail a check to PO Box 555 Ocean View DE 19970 Please share this with everyone you know so they can see how serious childhood cancer is. Its not just about kids with bald heads, its about children that go to hell and back and sometimes dont ever get to grow up. Thank you and Happy Memorial Day!
