Memorial to remember SHAWN GOSSON PICKUP. Red Stem Maple Tree planting gathering at Welby Garden Centre in honour of this much loved young man. Shawn felt a passionate love for his family, his friends, nature, plants, the bush, Slim Dusty, Touch Football, Ten Pin Bowling and most of all life. In 1997 Shawn left the comfort of his Sydney family home much to the surprise of his proud parents Joyce & Ean and moved into the Mittagong Caravan Park to take up a position at Welby Garden Centre as a supported disability worker. He had no family in Mittagong and was a long way away from home. Shawn worked together with some wonderful and supportive people and one person in particular that Shawn would always talk about was Helen. Shawn loved Helen like a second mum. Shawn joined the Mittagong Rural Fire Brigade and was warmly welcomed. Shawn felt the Brigade was like a big family and he was treated like a brother and an equal. Shawn loved his Brigade and all the people involved. Shawn had no greater love than his wife Camilla. Shawn & Camilla met when he began working at Welby Garden Centre. The romance blossomed. He was determined to marry this wonderful woman that he admired and adored. On 27 October, 2001 Camilla & Shawn married and from that day they were inseparable. Due to Shawns dedication, hard work, determination, stubbornness and encouragement in 2001 he became a staff member at Welby Garden Centre and commenced his apprenticeship which he completed in 2007. Shawn dedicated his life to Camilla, to his family, Mittagong RFS, his friends and to the Welby Garden Centre. He often gave a shit stir but most of all he gave the biggest warm bear hug that would nearly crush you in two, but at the same time he gave warm gentle cuddles when they were needed with a word of encouragement to help get you through. Although Shawn was faced with many challenges throughout his life he always gave it a go. He was always there with a helping hand putting others needs first. When asked about something Shawn would reply with Maybe. Shawn touched so many lives in so many different ways.. He was a big man with an even bigger heart. His family and friends are so grateful to have had Shawn in their lives for the short period of time that it was. Shawn, you are not only loved, you are respected and admired. Walking through Welby Centre on this Tree Planting Memorial day your presence was warmly felt by all especially seeing all the plants in full bloom of your favourite colour PINK. As we watch this Red Stem Maple grow we will remember your smile, your affection and passion of life. May you rest in peace Shawn
