Memories of the wonderful stores in Liberty.....Katz s Bakery....The best bakery not just in the Catskills, but possibly in the whole country....Till this date you mention Katz bakery and people say...Oh, the breads ..rye , punpernickel, challah, and the rolls, hard , soft, onion ,etc....were the best..., and also the cookies, black/white, rainbow, and linzer tarts, etc., were all terrific...the cakes, and all the other pastries, were the best that you ever tasted........The shop was located on South Main Street, and run by Ann Katz, the mother........The bakery itself was on the corner of Swan Lake Road and Lake Street, and run by Harold and Henry Katz....They did all the baking....Katzs shipped all over to all the hotels , camps , & bungalow colonies..Besides the main store, they opened stores in Monticello, Nanuet , and Binghamton...No other bakery around could compare....I have not been in a bakery like it since..It was the best ever...Thank you to the Katz family for the best memories of the best baked goods ever...
