(Memory lane hit today....)I had the family over for dinner again - TopicsExpress

(Memory lane hit today....)I had the family over for dinner again tonight - it is starting to become a regular Tuesday night ritual. :) I like! Marie enjoyed the cookies I made from scratch, Daddy Bliss ate 4 plates of nachos, and Tim and Sara both complimented the cookies and the dinner :) A great night. But honestly - my favorite part of the evening - because it touched a place in my soul I was unaware existed.... I recently uncovered a photo album of pictures taken in October of 2008. They were what served as my senior pictures, (a year late) and also were the last pictures my mother ever took. It both chilled my spine and warmed my heart to hear Marie as she sat on Papaws lap(Daddy Bliss) and at every picture she would identify who was in it. Almost every picture was of me with either Evita(my dog), Riccochet, Chocolate, or Snooch (my horses) - but there were 3 pictures that broke the mold. Those 3 pictures were of me and my mother, Jane Ellen Bliss. Marie, having never met my mother, still recognized her from photographs - and when those pictures came up, Marie said: That Fifi and Memaw. I smiled. I smiled from my the corners of my mouth to the very fibers that make up my heart deep within my chest. It warmed my heart. It warmed my heart and chilled my spine all at the same time. Marie... Little Marie... Sometimes the wisdom she holds is not that of a 2 year old, but is that of angels in heaven... she looked right at me after she identified my mother in the picture, and when Dad said Yep, that was Stevies mommy - She climbed from my fathers lap and came over to me. She of course didnt say anything. But the look we exchanged said everything. She may be a mere child. But children are the smartest, most pure, and sincere beings on the planet. Those were the last pictures of my mother before she was confined to a bed. A mere 2 weeks later, she never left the living room of our house again. Marie may not have understood every aspect of that - but she understood plenty as she climbed onto my lap and continued to look at the album with Aunt Fifi....
