Mendocino OHV3 this song is about the struggles jerry cantrell was feeling towards the end of Laynes life. He spent a lot of time playing PR to cover for Laynes struggle with Heroine like tour cancelations and show cancelations. Its a beautiful song that shows how much Jerry cared about Layne and how much he DIDNT care that Layne had a substance issue. He knew he was a GENIUS and a loving, insightful person who was struggling with pain.... Layne was convinced that if he became a musician that his dad would come back in his life...well it was true...he did come back into his life and started using an incredibly euphoric drug with him. Sadly he left Layne again to endulge in his own selfishness. This probably left Layne with an incredible emotional attachmetn to heroine as it not only killed his pain but brought him emotionally back to his experienceswith his father. Which eventually lead to 2002...which caused all the trauma that led jerry to making this song...probably an attempt of a wake up call for Layne. RIP Layne Staley Nut Shell
