Mens 1XI vs Harleston Magpies. The boys started the day looking fresher than the prince himself with the arrival of new tracksuits!! With this new look in mind and an inspirational comeback by the Ladies 1XI; The Stags were pumped and ready to go!! With a warm-up so sharp and at such high intensity; it was no surprise that Herts were applying huge pressure onto the Magpies back 4. It was not long before this pressure resulted in the first shortie of the game. MOM Dan Webster stepped up to the top of the D and fired home a drag flick to the left of the keeper. 1-0. West Herts were not done and not long after the first, came the second. MOM stepped up again and slotted another drag flick, this time to the right. 2-0 It was clear that the boys were in control of this fixture, but did not mean we were safe. The Magpies were able to attack our D but unable to secure any finishes; however reminding the boys that the game was not won yet. Half time 2-0. The second half started a little manic with the ball spread over the pitch like butter on toast; however, it was the stags who managed to slow things down and take control. Superb defending from the back four and world-class tracking back from the midfield line meant Magpies couldnt penetrate and possession was quickly back in our hands. A Great run from the recent return of Mr Osullivan and a trademark reverse stick cross, found Gordo on the back post for an easy tap in. 3-0 With the Magpies trying everything in their power to gain control, the fitness levels of the Stags was being tested. This didnt stop MOM Dan Webs who ran through their back line and slotted past the magpies keeper only to have his hat-trick goal stolen by James Dyson. Dan was not bothered by this act of treachery however Stuart Day (a man who had just lost his assist) was not best pleased. 4-0 The game continued and at fast pace. Yellow cards for both Captain and Vice Captain for interference did not affect the Stags ability to control the game and a welcomed final whistle meant another 3 points for the boys, top of the league and a chance to rest before another big fixture away at Dereham next week. Well done Boys, a great result. MOM Dan Webster DOD Matthew Buckland (green trousers + yellow card
