Mens 4s 6-2 Phoenix 4s (away) The team set out from Nouvion this week with much hope, looking to prove to the world that they were not garlic eating surrender monkeys as had been suggested after the previous result. With Herr Flick and Von Smallhausen returning to the side, first there was a clandestine meeting in the café, where Officer Crabtree was met by a man whispering pssst, tis I, LeClerc who promptly presented our law enforcement officer with a gold medallion. The only instructions use this to make vital decisions that may be ahead of you. And so the team headed to the neighbouring village where trees have Brains and pitches are blue and bouncy. The 4s began strongly with little resistance from the opponents and it was not long before we began to impose ourselves with a flurry of chances. The home side, seeing the Italian DiSaronno on the ball in the D backed off; what a mistaka to maka! The forward had recovered from his rustiness the weak before and unleashed a fine strike to give the visitors the lead. Soon after, Edwin was introduced to the scene and appearing stage left (a little outside his usual comfort zone) he strode past 3 players to challenge the keeper and slot a rebound in for a 2-0 lead. This prompted a sneaky pincer movement from the home side who countered and found their young forward unmarked on the P spot. A first time hit saw him wrong foot Kevin Harvey (pronounced Kevan) to pull one back. Jacques Tyson added a 3rd before the interval folliwing some strong team play involving Jonty et Rene Field on the right. HT 1-3 and a quick cognac and cigarillo while we discussed our plan for the second half. With all of the youngsters performing well and remembering their lines, the elder statesmen were afforded some time on the ball. So much so that at one stage, Rene, fooled by the blue surface beneath him, felt he had time to perform some moves befitting Swan Lake let alone the Four Releet. Wed have preferred a Maradona but we got a Primadona. Soon excellent work from Archie Mountier (hes canadian) allowed Martin DiSaronno to pop up again in the D and smash home his deuxieme goal, before Herr Flick got in on the act. A swift injection from a short corner to Jacques, was stopped by the keeper but the Gestapo talisman managed to hook the ball from underneath the clambering Torwart to slot home a 5th. With Von Smallhausen, Steve Gruber and Von Strom keeping it tidy at the back, more swift work from Edwin resulted in Officer Crabtree finding himself deep in the opposition D and staring down the barrel of the onrushing keeper. Calm as ever he squared (as wed practiced in rehearsal) to Sam Poisson who struck home well from the P spot to complete the scoring. A solid performance that gives the boys from Nouvion an 8pt gap as it stands over the team in 4th below them. Next week they face Brentwood at home at 3h30 GMT.
