Mental Health and the Holiday Blues! Did you know 64% of people with mental illness report that the holidays make their conditions worse? A lot like the topic of money…suicide, depression and mental health are taboo topics that we do not enjoy talking about or talk about often enough. The symptoms around these issues create fear, shame, uncertainty & doubt in the mind of the person experiencing the symptoms. Mental Illnesses, such as depression, can lead to outcomes of suicide b/c we cannot see, feel or describe these symptoms as easily as we can the symptoms for the common cold, diabetes or a heart attack…but the symptoms, feelings and outcome of hopelessness are very real to the person experiencing them and they see no other way out. How often do you try communicate a feeling or thought, but you are never understood? This is the feeling magnified for a person experiencing mental illness or depression. In light of the tragic & recent death of Trissha Taylor, I would like to share information on mental health and move us into a direction where we talk openly and support one another generously during our tough times….we all have them & I know I do and admit this with shame or fear The more info we share and the more we talk about this issue, the more we honor the death of Trissha Taylor by ensuring no one else feels they must give up on life because their is not alternative. We can also honor her life, experiences as well as the joy she brought to others by using her as a symbol or person who created a culture of awareness, education and conversation for other to get help and give help when they are feeling depressed or suicidal. Please reach out to someone if you are experiencing the holiday blues (which is also called Seasonal Affective Disorder or SAD) or feel someone may be experiencing the holiday blues. Dont be ashamed…Lets talk! Suicide is preventable. If you have no one you can trust, please call the National Suicide Prevention Hotline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255). While we want the holiday to be a time of joy, peace, love & happiness; it can also be a time of sadness, depression and fear for many. So give love, hugs, and have many conversations with people you care about this season. It can make a difference in sadness & happiness or life & death! Genuine conversation is the priceless gift we can give other this season. #TrisshaTaylor #suicideprevention #holidayblues prnewswire/news-releases/mental-health-and-the-holiday-blues-64-of-people-with-mental-illness-report-that-the-holidays-make-their-conditions-worse-283476701.html?utm_source=Monday+Messages-+December+1%2C+2014&utm_campaign=MM_12-1-2014&utm_medium=email
