Men’s Devotional – Let’s do less! Men, I don’t know about - TopicsExpress

Men’s Devotional – Let’s do less! Men, I don’t know about you, but I’ve been completely blessed by the sermons on Acts that Pastor Ray has preached over the past several weeks. They’ve blessed me and they’ve challenged me, too. Do you feel the Holy Spirit calling you to a deeper devotion…a deeper commitment…a joyful, yet expensive, obligation that will cost you your life? Over the past several weeks we’ve been told that God, through the work of the Holy Spirit, is active in our lives. We’ve been told to be clear and bold about the gospel and to take risks for the sake of the Kingdom of God and His Glory because our lives are hidden with Christ on God and completely secure in Him. We’ve been told to be scattered for the primary purpose of being a witness to all that God has done for us through Jesus. We’ve been reminded that there are some things in this world that are WAY too important not to share. So what now? What will we do with all that the Holy Spirit has given to us over the past several weeks? What will we do with these messages? The 90 Days of Generosity effort kicking off in a few weeks and it deals with a whole lot of “more” stuff. Pray more. Do more. Give more. That may seem daunting to some. You see, it’s difficult for some of us to entertain the idea of more when we’re already “tapped out”. Our calendar is full. Our wallets are empty. Our time is spent. The idea of doing more is not appealing to some of us. But, gentlemen, before we concentrate on “more” I’d like to challenge us to do “less” first. So, in preparation of the 90 Days of Generosity, I propose we do less. Let’s spend less time sleeping, so we can get up earlier, meet with God and be filled with His Spirit as we take on the day. Let’s spend less time on our hobbies, so we can spend more time serving the church, or speaking to a friend or neighbor about Jesus. Let’s spend less money on doing what we enjoy, so we can store up more eternal treasures in heaven. Less first…then more. Or to say it a better way: Before God can fill us (so that we live in God’s overflow), we must first empty our lives. Rom 15:13 “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Our response to the “Pray more, do more, give more” should be a resounding “YES”! But only after we’ve begun to lay down the trinkets of this world that we desperately cling to. I challenge you this week to start with less and watch the blessing of God pouring out "more" of His Spirit and power into your lives!
