Merry Christmas everyone! Warning, I’m going to be politically - TopicsExpress

Merry Christmas everyone! Warning, I’m going to be politically incorrect again. Humor me, please. December 25th is a day that was established by the early Christian church, somewhere between the third and fourth centuries, to commemorate the birth of Christ. We do not know the exact day or month that Christ was born, but nevertheless, the Christian church thought it fit to remember the birth of the Savior of the world, and so it happened that generally December 25th is the day chosen for this purpose, although some Christians celebrate on January 6th. The date of remembrance is not important, but the remembering is. Notice the name of this holiday - “Christmas.” There is a strong movement in this country to remove Christ out of Christmas. That is nonsense. As the name of the holiday suggests, this is a day all about Christ. If you remove the person for whom this day was established to remember, then you no longer have Christmas. Can we remove Martin Luther King from Martin Luther King Day, or Abraham Lincoln or George Washington from the national holidays named for them? Or what if your friends and family hold a birthday celebration on your birthday, and you don’t get invited. They tell you that they like the party, but they don’t like you, so they celebrate anyway in your absence. If anyone tried to do so they would be viewed as a lunatic. So why should anyone think we should remove Christ from Christmas. If you don’t like Christ, or believe in Him, but you like the bright lights, celebrations and gift giving of Christmas, then let me suggest that you start a movement to establish a day to celebrate the birth of no one. You can hang your lights, decorate an evergreen tree and put it in your living room and spend a lot of money buying gifts for others, just for the fun of it. Choose any day of the year you like, but just don’t try to make the rest of us who celebrate Christmas join you. You don’t have to join our December 25th Christmas celebrations. Christmas is about remembering the birth of Christ, like it or not.
