Mersin, a large city and a port on the Mediterranean coast of southern Turkey, is known throughout the country the "Pearl of the Mediterranean". The 2013 Mediterranean Games, which are celebrated every four years by are the countries of the Mediterranean Basin, will take place in Mersin next week. This is considered the most important athletic event in the region after the Olympics with members participating in over 25 disciplines. Here young people from different continents, origins, religions and cultures gather to compete. The countries that participate in the Mediterranean games are Albania, Algeria, Andorra, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Croatia, Cyprus, Egypt, Spain, France, Greece, Italy, Lebanon, Libya, Macedonia, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro, Morocco, Serbia, St Merino, Slovenia, Syria, Tunisia and Turkey.
