Message from Chevy Chase and his wife Jayni - This came to me through Friends of the Earth -- take the time to watch it, please. Its a video of an event created Saturday night at the United Nations, sent my friend Louie Psihoyos, Executive Director of the Oceanic Preservation Society. Please spread the word, everyone! A worldwide plea from my activist wife, Jayni: I know there are endless causes each of us could devote ourselves to, but for me everything else pales in comparison to the mass extinction of species across the globe. These extinctions are inevitable if we dont drastically reduce the CO2 were spewing into our atmosphere. Im focused on wild things -- animals, plants, insects -- each of which are integral parts of the many varied eco-systems we have in this amazing world. But if youre more concerned about people, keep in mind that climate change is already directly responsible for thousands if not millions of climate refugees, many of whom have died or are living in horrifying conditions. Id like to suggest we all raise our visions, that we lift our heads out of the sand. Its a lot more comfortable to carry on our daily lives, not making meaningful changes, than it is to hold in the front of our minds these images and face the responsibilities of taking action. Of course many of us are taking action, but its not enough. We all need to do more. There are so many things we can do, every one of us. Id like to suggest, pick yours and do it.
