Met Mdm Joy Chen when our team went out today to present the Pioneer Generation welcome pack to our seniors. I was surprised when Joy told me that she is 80 years old, as she looks much younger than her age. According to her, the secret lies in music. Joy has had an illustrious music career. Trained in the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Italy, Joy and her late husband Tian Ming En taught many teachers, conducted many choirs and were prominent among professionals in the music circle. She says that music is her life and it lives within her, making her feel young everyday. Currently, she is still actively coaching musicians in the region and in her free time, she listens to Italian opera, her favourite being Madame Butterfly which she has performed in her younger days. Joy’s zest and passion for life and music is admirable, and I look forward to learning more about our seniors in the constituency as we continue to reach out to them to raise awareness of the Pioneer Generation Package.
