Metal Month - Day 11: The 1980s thrash scene was thought to have - TopicsExpress

Metal Month - Day 11: The 1980s thrash scene was thought to have been the product of four bands (aptly named, the Big Four of Thrash): Metallica, Anthrax, Slayer, and Megadeth. Today, I cover Anthrax, because I think they added a little pizzazz, if you will, to not only thrash metal, but metal in general. They had an exhausting stage presence, and they added another layer of upbeat punk rock to an already fast-tempo genre. Scott Ian (the only remaining original band member) is often the face of the band with his constant smile and long chin scruff that varies in bright colors. But his guitar riffs continued the chugga chugga sound of Metallica. And the vocalists (while varying throughout the years) are reminiscent of Bruce Dickinsons wailing in Iron Maiden. One of my favorite things about the band is that they dont take themselves too seriously: No one can get their cover of Bring the Noise with Public Enemy out of their heads; they appeared on Married...With Children; and during the (real) anthrax scare more than a decade ago, they quipped that they would change their name to Basket Full of Puppies. While Im not a Anthrax fan, I can appreciate their quintessential metal persona and contributions to headbanging music. The video below is of one their more popular songs, Madhouse. The quality sucks, again. But thats the point, so sit back down! https://youtube/watch?v=K3VcGrqytG8
