Mewat is a historical region of Haryana and Rajasthan states and western Uttar Pradesh in India. The loose boundaries of Mewat are not precisely determined but generally include Mewat , part of Faridabad and Palwal District of Haryana, and parts of Alwar, Bharatpur, and Dholpur districts of Rajasthan and western Uttar Pradesh,() where the Meos have lived for a millennium. The Muslim inhabitants of Mewat are called Meos. The areas of the three districts where Meos live are collectively called Mewat. Mewat has 1200 villages: 550 in Haryana, 600 in Rajasthan and 50 in UP. Mewat district is a district of Haryana state in India. It is located at southern edge of Haryana. Its area is 1,912 square km and the population is one million. It is semi-arid and its economy is mainly rain-fed agriculture. Nuh is the district headquarters of Mewat. Uttar Pradesh:- The district of Mathura formed part of the historic Mewat region, especially the Chhata tehsil, and is home to a large community of Meo. The south west portion of Bulandshahr District is also home to a large community of Meo. The Meo also extend to Meerut District. Delhi:- The Meo in Delhi are found mainly in the neighborhood of Walled City (Kucha Pandit Lal Kuan, Gali Shahtara Ajmri Gate and Bara Hindu Rao), Azadpur, Hauz Khas, Mehrauli , Hojrani , Okhla and various outlying villages with names ending in Sarai which have become urbanized. Though the district Mewat of Haryana is in the National Capital Region (NCR) and just 50 km from Delhi airport, it has remained undeveloped. The industrial estates created by Haryana State Industrial Development Corporation (HSIDC) remained underutilized. Hasan Khan Mewati represented Meos in the battle of Kanwah along with Rana Sangram Singh Rana Sanga in 1526 against the Mughal Babur. Hasan Khan and his Meo warriors gave a brave fight. Hasan Khan was killed in the battle of Kanwah while his son Tahir Khan was captured by the Mughals. Tahir Khan later fled from the Mughal camp. The Mughal Emperor Babar has also written about Hasan Khan Mewati in his autobiography, Bāburnāma. To the Mughals, the Mewatis were rebels. Lost their sons in first war of independence (1857) and proved criminal to the British rulers throughout the freedom struggle.
