This enables Canada to fast-tracks deportations to these countries. Deportations like that of refugee claimant Lucia Vega Jimenez, who was so afraid of being deported back to Mexico that she committed suicide in a migrant detention center in December 2013. Canada must remove Mexico from the safe country list and stop fast-tracking deportations of Mexican refugees. In fact, the whole safe country list needs to be scrapped; a two-tier refugee system based on nationality is fundamentally discriminatory. ----- CBC: Should Mexico still be considered a safe country?
