Michael Dean French Obit: Born 3/20/1955 in Sikeston Missouri, raised in New Madrid Missouri passed away peacefully at his home in Millington Tennessee January 1, 2015. He is survived by his sons Eric, Jeremy, and Justin, parents Gene and Lucy French, sisters Jeana, Karen, and Julie, brothers Nick, Joe, John and Pat. Mike joined the US Navy in 1973 and quickly enlisted in and completed submarine school. He served our country as a Submariner sailing around the world on The USS Nathanael Greene SSBN 636 Blue, The USS Nebraska SSBN 739 Gold, and The USS Alaska SSBN 732 Gold. He had a passion for his service and held many different positions, highly decorated more than ten times he rose to the rank of Petty Officer 1ST Class and retired honorably after twenty years in the service. In his retirement he earned a Mechanical Engineering Degree from State Tech in Memphis and worked as an Engineer for some time before deciding that he enjoyed fishing more. He loved his many Shipmates and stayed in contact with them. He was an incredibly funny, fiercely loyal colorful guy who will be dearly missed. His passing should not be mourned but his life should be celebrated because to quote a friend, he lived life the way he wanted. The family will receive visitors on Thursday January 8th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Memorial Park Funeral Home 5668 Poplar Avenue, Memphis Tennessee 38119. A private burial service will be held at a later date.
