Michael Irvin: Expect explosive season from ‘physically-gifted beast’ Dez Bryant By Jon Machota jmachota@dallasnews 11:49 am on July 10, 2014 88s past and present. Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant talks with ex-Dallas WR Michael Irvin, an NFL analyst who also wore No. 88, following an afternoon practice. Dez Bryant says he’s one of the NFL’s top wide receivers. His peers recently ranked him No. 6 at his position. Bryant finished 25th overall on the NFL Network’s Top 100 players list, which was fully revealed Wednesday night. The five receivers ahead of him: Detroit’s Calvin Johnson, Cincinnati’s A.J. Green, Cleveland’s Josh Gordon, Houston’s Andre Johnson and Pittsburgh’s Antonio Brown. Bryant was 35th overall and eighth among wide receivers on last year’s list. “I don’t think about it,” Bryant said last month when asked if he measures himself against the league’s top receivers. “I’m a fan of a lot of these guys in the league. I’m just going to remain that way. I’m a huge fan of the NFL. I love the game. I love seeing other players make great plays … except against us. “It is fun to hear other people talk about it, and when I do good and hear other people talk about it, it makes me feel good.” Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irvin unveiled his own list of top receivers on Wednesday, and Bryant was No. 4. “Just a physically-gifted beast of a football player,” Irvin said of Bryant on the NFL Network. “He’s learning more and more about the game each year. He’s getting better and better each year. I’m expecting that explosive year out of him this season.” Since he entered the league in 2010, Bryant is second in touchdown receptions and 10th in receiving yards among players at his position. Over the last two seasons, Bryant, 25, is sixth in yards and leads all wide receivers in touchdowns. “I don’t think about the numbers,” Bryant said last month. “Whatever happens, happens. All I know is I’m confident in the work that I put in. I know if I continue to keep working hard and get the other guys to work hard, it’s always going to be a good result. It’s always positive when it comes out at the end.”
