Michael O. Brown, 65 of Hudson, IL formerly of Bloomington, passed away on Thursday (June 26, 2014) at 10:39am at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center , Normal , IL . Michael’s memorial service will be held on Wednesday (July 2, 2014) at 11am at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington , IL . Cremation rites will be accorded. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Military rites will be conducted by the Bloomington/Normal American Legion Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to ??? Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, Illinois is in charge of arrangements. Michael was born on October 20, 1948 in Humboldt, Tennessee, the son of Leon and Mildred Woodson Brown. He is survived by the love of his life of 25 years; Belinda Harrison of Hudson, IL, their three children; Edessa Brown of Hudson, IL, Michael Isaiah Brown of Bloomington, IL and Josh Brown of Hudson, IL along with a step-daughter; Rachel (David) Gesell of Clinton, IL. Also surviving are three brothers; Jimmy (Linda) Brown of Gary, Indiana, Ronald David ( Wanjel) Brown of Decatur, Illinois and Gary Wayne Brown of Decatur, Illinois, two sisters; Mildred Oldham of McLemoresville, Tennessee and Eva Verline Rogersof Indianapolis, Indiana along with his Aunt Verline Williamson of Milan, Tennessee. Michael is preceded in death by; his parents, 3 brothers and 1 sister. Michael graduated from Polk Clark High School as a star football athlete for the Milan Buffalos. He served two tours in Vietnam with the US Army serving as a Ranger and an E5 Sergeant. He was honorably discharged as a decorated soldier. He worked as a counselor for The Light House Youth Services and later worked at Illinois State University retiring in 2003 from the BSW department. Michael was an avid Bears fan. He had a wonderful presence about him always willing to help anyone with no hesitation, and made friends with everyone he met. Mostly Michael will be remembered as a devoted and loving father who was excited about the upcoming birth of his first grandchild.
