Michael Oche The South-South geopolitical zone has called on delegates to the national conference to discuss various issues that are critical to the corporate existence of the country; state police, sustainable development and security. The call was made in a communiqué issued yesterday and signed by Prof. Sotonye Amakiri and Eugene Nwala. The communiqué stated that in line with the spirit of the amalgamation of Nigeria in 1914, all the ethnic nationalities of the country should conscientiously renegotiate their relationship under one Nigeria, The communiqué read in part, “for the fact that the 1999 constitution of Nigeria is not considered to be a true constitution of the people of Nigeria and some of its provisions negate fundamental tenets and principles of a proper federation, a new constitution that truly reflects the original agreement of the founding fathers in line with true federation principles be written. “The people of the South-South geographical zone after a critical review of various forms of government practiced in different democracies and federal systems of the world recommend a true federal system of government for Nigeria.” On the support for President Jonathan, the group described President Jonathan as a leader who had made the nation proud through his transformation agenda. The group, therefore, stressed the need to give the president maximum support to enable him deliver the dividends of democracy to the people. According to Chief Celestine Osin Tawo, a chieftain of the South-South, the president has made remarkable achievements in the areas of agriculture, sports, education and human capital development among others, adding that by convening the National Conference, Jonathan had shown that he is a listening leader.
