Microsoft says goodbye to Windows XP & Office 2003 ...... Anyone thinking of continuing to use Windows XP on the internet should take the following pre-cautions: 1. Have a Rescue Disk with virus removing tools e.g. Kaspersky or AVG. Microsoft did have Windows Defender Off-line, but they have removed it!! Thanks a bunch! (Test the Rescue disk) 2. Uninstall unecessary programs especially ones that connect to the internet 3. Have a quality anti-virus and firewall (obvious) 4. Turn off your router when not connected to the internet. e.g. when at lunch or doing other stuff not related to the net. 5. Back-up your data to DVD (not USB or external memory). 6. Uninstall unecessary add-ons browser including Adobe Reader. 7. Make sure Flash and Shockwave up-to-date. Better to have them turned off, but lots of sites still use them. 8. Uninstall JAVA (unless needed) 9. Use an up-to-day brower e.g. Chrome, Firefox, or Opera (anyone who is supporting it) 10. Some anti-virus, can warn you if a web site is safe or not before you visit. 11. Check your Windows start-up and stop unnecessary programs starting up. 12. Keep a re-installation disk handy. Incase you need to re-install your PC/laptop. e.g. keep all drivers and programs one place.
