Midnight Shift Police Officers Make Great Arrest of Burglar … At 3:40 A.M. Officers Marcos Hernandez and Patrick Haggerty were dispatched to a B&E in Progress to a townhouse on Lazon Brothers Road in the Indian Orchard section of the city. The frantic 9-1-1 emergency call came from a 56 year old victim who was home sleeping when she heard a noise and went to investigate. When she arrived in her living room she observed that her window unit air conditioner was pushed in and an unknown subject was attempting to crawl in the window. The female victim made a noise in fear and the burglar took off from the scene of the break. The victim called 911 and the officers were dispatched. While the officers were attempting to arrive quickly and quietly they spotted a male matching the description running at a full sprint on Oak Street. The officers attempted to catch up to him and when the thief became aware of the officers presence he threw a tire iron into the bushes and then dove in some bushes at a private residence to evade capture. The desperate criminal hoped the officers didn’t see him hiding in a crouched position … no such luck. The officers approached him and hand cuffed him. The thief was wearing all black and was dressed to burglarize homes. Great arrest by these two dedicated officers. Arrested was … Marquan Moriarty age 19 of 126 Lazon Brothers Road, Springfield. Charges … 1) B&E Building Nighttime for a Felony 2) Burglarious Instruments, Possession of (crowbar) 3) Vandalizing Property Over $250.00 Mr. Moriarty will be arraigned in Springfield District Court today. Picture enclosed of this suspect below. At 9:30 P.M. last evening the Springfield Police Departments “Street Crime Unit” under the direction of Lt. Robert Tardiff investigated a shooting that took place on island Pond Road near Allen Street last evening. The 22 year old male victim of the crime called police fearing for his life and was being pursued by two subjects after they saw him at a traffic light and began to shoot in his direction. The victim drove his car to get away from the two suspects that were driving a red Nissan 350Z convertible car. The chase went down Allen Street to Sumner Avenue and then onto Harkness Avenue and on into East Longmeadow. The victim drove to a dead end in East Longmeadow and then had to flee on foot away from his pursuers. The Springfield Police contacted the East Longmeadow police who were on the scene and captured one of the suspects right away. The victim ended up at a shopping plaza in East Longmeadow where he called the police again and was safe at a hair salon. The victim positively ID the suspect they had in custody and he was arrested. The other subject escaped and the Street Crime Unit is still investigating this case and obtaining an arrest warrant. The suspect under arrest is identified as … Derek Lopez age 27 of 63 Wilcox Street, Springfield, MA .. charges … 1) Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon (handgun) 2) Discharging a Firearm 3) Receiving Stolen Property (cell phone had in his possession) 4) Poss. of a Firearm Without a Permit 5) Poss. of Ammo Kudos to the Street Crime Unit Officers and the East Longmeadow PD for acting quickly and getting this subject into custody. The shooting has been determined to be gang related and is still under investigation. On Tuesday November 11’th 2014 at 12:15 PM the Springfield Police Department responded to a disturbance and fight inside an apartment on the 7th floor of 15 Girard Avenue. The officers arrived and treated two subjects inside the apartment that were suffering from severe stab wounds. The following subject died from his wounds … Antrone Jahmall Hill age 23 of Bay Street Springfield, MA. Detectives under the direction of captain Thomas Trites responded and investigated the stabbing. After interviewing the other 25 year old male victim who was treated at an area hospital and released and also speaking and interviewing witnesses and going over forensic evidence it has been decided that charges will not be filed against the subject who caused the stab wounds to Mr. Hill. The evidence was brought to the District Attorney’s Office and after going over the evidence it has been determined that this was a case of “self defense” and the death is not being labeled as a Murder. It appears from the evidence that Mr. Hill went to the victims 7th floor apartment armed with a knife and an argument ensued over illegal drug transactions. During the brief but violent struggle Mr. Hill ended up getting stabbed and later dying from those stab wounds. Members of the Springfield Police Departments Warrant Apprehension Unit along with Officers from the Hampden County Sheriff’s Department and the Massachusetts State Police VFAS Unit and US Marshals arrested Abimeal Roman who was wanted for escaping from the Hampden County House of Correction unit on Howard Street last Thursday, November 6th. This same wanted subject was highlighted on CBS 3’s “Springfield Most Wanted” last evening.
