Midnight has passed. Christmas morning is upon us. Just sat - TopicsExpress

Midnight has passed. Christmas morning is upon us. Just sat listening to the history of Silent Night and heard an extraordinarily beautiful rendition of it. Being older and looking closer at things in life isnt as much fun as being young and just accepting it all and running with it. I was thinking about a lot of religiously and corporately induced misconceptions... a. Jesus wasnt born on December 25th. In fact, he probably wasnt born in a stable either. b. Saint Nicholas (Santa) was actually alive and died between 325 and 345 A.D. and while he may have been an incredible and generous figure of his time, he isnt immortal and all the rest of the magic is just mythology. Coca Cola developed what we know of today as the jolly St. Nick in 1931. None of what we are so happy about is based on reality.. c. Jesus Christ told us to celebrate his death not his birth. So, to be a true Christian, in my mind, we should be following his teachings. d. Everything we celebrate tonight is basically Pagan tradition turned to Christian (religious) usage except that Christ was sent here to turn a page. Without that event (if you are Christian and believe) we would have been doomed to death due to Original Sin. Because of this event we have a conduit to return back to the one true God. Now, all the above points are what people would call humbug and as I have been raised to enjoy Christmas, you cant really bash it for the fact that it brings families together (normally) at this time of year and lets us reflect on the world as a whole and how we should be giving everyone equal respect and care regardless of lifes station. Seeing people in church tonight praising God (I personally believe Jesus was a conduit to God and asked us not to worship him) and celebrating Christs birth is hard to fault. It was the beginning of an age and changed so much at that point in history. You cannot argue with his impact. However, parts of it (maybe Im just getting old) feel like pushing a truth covered with a whole mess of lies. For some reason, although I really stand behind Christmas as a social institution, I find it a bit offensive as a religious one. Not that I would think that people should stop celebrating, I just think that the truths are getting so buried that people are just unintentionally misled. That bothered me. As I age, I really like to know the truths where possible. Accepting this, I have decided to just go with the flow and let people get back to thinking of others in a me world. In a world that has so much dark, it was very nice to see the lights tonight. Merry Christmas anyone who reads this. I hope this season brings a little light into your life. My apologies to anyone who would rather not have known or thought about this.
