Mike Nichols was one of the many neighborhood characters I recall growing up on East 75th Street off Madison. We had an old fashioned luncheonette soda fountain counter in the back of Zitomers, a drug store, and I would hang out there and get cherry cokes for a dime. Mike Nichols must have lived close by, because he also hung out at the soda fountain. This was long before the film directing, when he was known mostly for comedy with Elaine May. Ive enjoyed his films my whole life: RIP Mike Nichols.
