Militrivia Passchendaele: October 26th, l917 The Canadian Corps entered the bloody fray. Corps Commander Currie planned a three stage advance. The battle opened on the 26th and despite early setbacks the Canadians achieved their first day objectives advancing from the flooded low country and gained a foothold on the high ground. It was costly day. Hundreds died including 18 year old Thomas Riley who was lost forever in the Passchendaele mud.
