Milo: Mama, are you still sad your baby friend died? Me: Sometimes. I think sad is always big for awhile and then it gets smaller and smaller. Sometimes it goes away, and sometimes it pokes us again and we remember. But right now? I am not feeling sad. Milo: Do a lot of babies die? Do kids die? Me: Sometimes babies die and sometimes kids die. BUT! Remember, every living thing has a beginning and an end. A leaf, a tree, a bee, a person....everything. You can remember that most people grow very very old, older than you can imagine today, and then they have their end. But sometimes...yes. Sometimes babies and kids have their end. You know what is amazing though? Every person gets their chance, and we always help each other love and live for as many minutes as possible. Someone will always help you. And me. And others. So even if some babies die and some kids die, there are at least as many people helping them have more time. Ok? Milo: Very ok. Thank you. (How would you explain it to a child? Amazingly they always seem far more accepting than us grown-ups, but still. Words! They are hard.)
