Minimah advised to adopt new approach to tackle insurgency A retired Army Colonel and an army trained pilot, Samaila Yombe, has advised the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Kenneth Minimah, to mobilize all senior military officers and troops to the troubled North-East region to tackle the insurgency squarely. Yombe, who gave the advice yesterday while speaking with our reporter in Zuru, Kebbi State, lamented the worsening security situation in the region. He also advised top security security chiefs in the country to use all tactical war strategies in Borno and other parts of the troubled North-East region. Yombe suggested that “a 10 km interval tactical advance with superior troops and firepower should be employed to the war front until all those areas under the control of the insurgents are recaptured”. He said, “I pity the COAS because he may have constraints on issues that Nigerians do not know. Let him come out and tell Nigerians his constraints, otherwise, we do not see any reason why Nigerian soldiers who have fought in battle fronts before will be sacked by the insurgents. “What I expect the COAS to do is that the Army headquarters should relocate to the center of the crisis in the North East and tackle this insurgency head on or he should resign honorably for a more competent hand. “For God’s sake, the territorial integrity of this country is at stake. So, let all of them sitting in Abuja relocate and redirect all their security efforts in that area. “I have given my life enough for this country and I make bold to give this advice going by the pains, embarrassment and frustration from the insecurity situation in the country. “It’s really very annoying to hear that soldiers are sacked and the insurgents are flying flags in some towns in Nigeria. If the soldiers cannot face them, then the government should find out why and speak to them because Nigerians are eager, tensed and really very frustrated,” Yombe added.
