Ministers and the rightwing media pretend real poverty doesnt exist in the UK. But people in or on the edge of poverty experience the real-life consequences of this depletion of the resources. Visit a food bank or school breakfast club, or talk to a Citizens Advice bureau debt adviser. With the cost of a minimum standard of life rising to £40,000 a year for a couple with two children, large swathes of British people on low incomes will never be able to afford an acceptable standing of living.
