Minute by minute Im slowly digesting the #FSU shooting. On the way - TopicsExpress

Minute by minute Im slowly digesting the #FSU shooting. On the way back to Tallahassee from Ocala at 6:30am I heard it announced on the radio. My initial reaction wasnt frantic. For some reason it kinda went in one ear and out the other. Then I got a phone call at 8 reiterating the same information. Still kinda eh. Who knows. I didnt sleep last night and was trying to keep my spirits up. I get to Tallahassee and the the social media updates, opinions, speculations, and offers of condolences begin rolling in. Im not going to lie. For a minute I thought the reactions were extreme. Like overreacting extreme. I then get to work and I notice that our campus police officers have made themselves more visible (like theyre everywhere). Not knowing any details, I guess I was choosing not to emotionally react. Im guessing. Like I said, I was trying to keep my spirits up. *shrugs Now, to see the face of, whats said to be the shooter, who doesnt fit the description of someone who will open fire on a college campus left me extremely empathetic. Chilling. Its crazy how we all have it all wrong huh? Its the people who look like they dont need help, and who appears to have it all together, who are the ones who really need help. I look in many faces in various positions, socioeconomic classes, status, professional or personally, and 95% of them are no different from Myron May (the shooter). A graduate from Florida State University and Texas Tech University Law School. However, more importantly, hats off to TPD and FSU PD. They couldnt have handled that any better. Im extremely relieved that we werent a Virginia Tech story, but Im concerned about the many Myron Mays in the world. If you think I invented the Share My World concept to just chat, think again. Open dialogue. #perceptions Im hoping that I can make others feel comfortable with sharing the stuff that scares, motivates, frustrates, excite and/or entice them, by sharing. Youll be surprised at the many people who say, Omg, I feel or felt the SAME WAY. I use to barricade my feelings and emotions like most successful, professional, and any servant of any capacity, does. Religion too. Because they have to seem PERFECT in every way. Excuse my language, but for me these days, that shits out the window. You can have perfection, Im all about progress. People are convinced that the people in those categories dont have the same emotional hurdles as they do. WRONG. Multiply yours by 10. #pressure The worst thing in life is to be jailed by the reactions of others in fear of making a mistake to the point where youre reluctant to voice your concerns, issues, and/or challenges. Someone who knows they need help and doesnt ask, is deadlier than the one who doesnt know they need the help. Dialogue is important. Perfection is already taken by your existence, work on progression. Mistakes are inevitable. Embrace them. We all go through the SAME things (in different ways), so lets stop acting like we dont. You might be the next Myron May.
