Miqdhad Abdulmajid is among the first batch of graduates of the U.S. Embassy, Manila Philippines Leaders for Enhanced and Accelerated Development, Engagement and Fiscal Responsibility (LEADER) internship program, which provides young people from Mindanao’s conflict-affected communities an opportunity to work in the offices of the Philippine Government’s executive branch. LEADER, implemented by USAID Philippines Enhancing Governance, Accountability and Engagement (ENGAGE) Project, provides interns with an opportunity learn firsthand how to formulate policies and programs on revenue administration and fund management, while gaining a deeper understanding of the proper and transparent utilization of government resources. During his 3-month internship, Miqdhad had the opportunity to serve as part of the team that designed the Local Government Unit Fiscal Sustainability Scorecard, an innovative system which institutionalizes the regular publication of fiscal indicators and performance review of municipal, city, and provincial governments.
