Mir flags off environment rally Rising Kashmir New:On the occasion of World Environment Day, the travel trade fraternity Wednesday took out a rally from Zabarwan Park to Dalgate. Minister for Tourism Ghulam Ahmad Mir flagged off the Rally in presence of Director Tourism Kashmir and other officials at 8.30 am. The rally which was led by Chairman Tourist Trade Environment Committee G M Dug was attended by tourists and also civil society on way. The World Environment Day is being celebrated June 5 to spread awareness about the need to preserve environment and protect ecology in order to leave a better tomorrow for children and future generations. The rally was attended by tourist trade organizations including members from Travel Agents Society of Kashmir, House Boat Owners Association, J&K Tourism Alliance, Kashmir Hotel and Restaurant Owners Federation, Kashmir Hotel and Restaurant Association, J&K Hoteliers Club, Travel Agents Association of India-JK Chapter, Indian Association of Tour Operators, Adventure Tour Operators Association of India, Pilgrim And Leisure Tour Operators Forum, Tourist Taxi Operators Association, Shikara Owners Association and others The Civil Society hailed the initiative of these organizations in spreading awareness about the need to stop environmental degradation. Tourism Minister Ghulam Ahmad Mir lauded the initiative saying the people in general and tourism stakeholders in particular were duty-bound to preserve and protect the environment in the interests of present and future generations. He added that any compromise with environment will lead to warming, shortage of food and water and social and man-animal conflict. He said that Government is serious about taking necessary steps to stop actions responsible for harming the environment. The Chairman G M Dug while thanking the participants assured that tourism fraternity would play its role for the preservation of environment. “More awareness programmes would be held in future.”
