Mission Statement: In the spirit of service not self, the American Legion Andrew Pearson Post 117, honors the sacrifice of those who serve by enhancing the lives of veterans, the military and their families both at home and abroad. The American Legion strives to promote a better understanding of the principles of democracy and to inculcate among all people a higher appreciation of the benefits of American citizenship. To serve the needs of all veterans and their families. To fulfill our commitment to community, state, and nation. We advocate for veterans, the education of our citizens, mentoring youth, and promoting patriotism, good citizenship, peace and national security concerning the American Legion values. Vision: The American Legion is the nations largest wartime veterans service organization founded on the values, contributions, and sacrifices, of those who answered the nations call to arms, Therefore we must: Respond to quality of life needs of all veterans and their families, Prepare each generation to meet its citizenship obligations, Maintain a strong national defense, Perpetuate the principles of government embodied in the United States Constitution, Be a values-based organization committed to serving God, country, community and every veteran today, tomorrow and throughout the future. A core focus of American Legion Post 117 must continue to be America’s Armed Services. The post strives to connect members with the benefits they have earned, protect those benefits, and promote ways in which to further care for each service member. Past or present, young or old, Post 117 will support its members and other armed service members through its support of American Legion and other veteran centric programs. We will utilize our combined knowledge and experience to assist all veterans in navigating veteran service providers within the community, State, and Nation. Post 117 will raise awareness for the needs of its comrades dealing with all service connected conditions. The post has a broader vision than of just taking care of its own member base. Post 117 makes families a priority by focusing on the entire family. The post aligns with its Women’s Auxiliary to accomplish this mission through events such as scholarships, essay and oratorical contests, encouraging volunteer work, and mentoring. Post 117 is committed to the youth of our community by setting an example of ethics and hard work. Post 117 is committed to giving back to our community through support of other local civic and youth organizations. Our vision does not end with the immediate community. We endeavor to support legislation protecting the constitutional rights of all Americans. We will set an example of patriotism and honor and encourage others to do the same.
