Missouri voters “overwhelmingly” vetoed a ballot yesterday - TopicsExpress

Missouri voters “overwhelmingly” vetoed a ballot yesterday that would have increased the state’s sales tax by three-quarters of one percent to help pay for roads, highways, and bridges. The proposed ballot was rejected 59 percent to 41 percent – even though some elements of the ballot were designed to make it more appealing (like banning tolls on state highways and banning the increase of taxes on gasoline). Joseph Henchman, the VP for legal and state projects at the non-partisan Tax Foundation, said “Like many states, Missouri has transportation needs larger than available revenues. The best way to fund it is through user payments, but the initiative instead tried to raise the general sales tax and banned tolls. That was bad policy.” Click through to read more and remember to be safe wherever you go – nothing is more important!
