Missy asked, I am at a loss. My 6-year-old has been reading since 18 months. I have video of her reading her colors that early. She has been assessed at a reading level of 7th grade or higher. Awesome, right? Well, I can not teach her basic math. I am having the worst time with her. I have searched and feel I have done everything I should do to help her learn it as simple as possible. She makes no effort, doesnt try and just seems to give up at it. One page of simple addition and subtraction - she cries and says is too hard. Although I know she understand the method, she comprehends what she should do, she makes it more difficult than it is and just freaks out. I have no clue how to deal with this. I am really baffled, and stuck. Now, math was not my strong suit and I hated it, but I have set that aside in order to teach her and really do show her patience. But after two hours of repeating the same calm things to help her out, I lose it. I just do not get it. She has blocked it out and just will not try. It makes me want to give up and and send her to school or find a tutor. My husband would teach her, but he works all day long. By the time he gets home it is too late to teach her. We had trouble with time and money as well. She is just starting to get that, but is still having trouble with simple 0-20 addition and subtraction. Sigh. What do I do?
