Mohammad Munshi In the end it will be history that will judge former Jamaat-e-Islami amir Golam Azam on his role as a student leader in Dhaka University in the 1940s till his death on October 23, 2014 when he was on trial for alleged war crimes in 1971. However, it is likely we will have to wait another few decades for an objective assessment when Bangladesh has experienced enough Indian chauvinism and arrogance that it can really and truly appreciate his concerns. An honest evaluation will also have to wait for an environment and atmosphere where free debate and discussion is permitted in Bangladesh and sentiment (chetona) and emotion do not cloud peoples judgment on past historical issues and controversies. Sadly, the way some pro-Indian elements have already remarked on his death that day is still a long way off. As things stand in Bangladesh some people know without actually knowing and see without really seeing because many have already discarded or assigned their own critical and analytical mental faculties to others. thebangladeshtoday/media/2013/07/Golam-azam-0120130714000433-400-x-273.jpg
