Mom (Michelle Messer Sando), I made this funny video for you but I believe you already know, in all seriousness, how proud I am, to have you as my Mother. During this past year, I realized more than ever, how truly blessed I am to be your daughter. Its a privledge beyond words. My Mother would never admit this herself because shes so humble, but she gave up a career that she loved to be a full-time 24/7 caretaker of my beloved Grandmother, since 2006, up until 6 weeks ago, when my Grandmother passed away to begin her new journey. I dont think most people realize the sacrifice 24/7+++ caretakers make and how much they give of themselves mentally, physically and emotionally. Its an exhausting experience that can only be fuelled by love. As Ive said to my Mother multiple times, she gave of herself to allow my Grandmother to live in a joyful, peaceful environment for 8 years and made every sacrifice possible to help my Grandmother then pass away with dignity and with respect. So many elderly people arent given that kind of treatment unfortunately, during their final years and Im certain, that if it werent for my Mothers selfless dedication, my Grandmother wouldnt have wanted to live the latter part of her 96 years. I tried to help when I could, especially since no other family members stepped in to assist, so my Mother was basically left on her own to DO EVERYTHING and she sure did, and did it well! Usually when people get to be in their 90s, because of aches, pains and sicknesses, they become unhappy and bitter. But every day that I walked in my Mothers warm home, my Grandmother was either singing, laughing, eating, sleeping comfortably, and even sometimes telling the occasional dirty joke. :) Her constant joy was solely because of the love and endless care that my Mother gave her. My Grandmother would call me her sunshine but my Mother was her savior, and every genuine person that came to see my Grandmother over the years, saw how evident that constant love was. And if they didnt, my Grandmother would happily remind them. Very soon after my Grandmothers passing, I unwillingly had to deal with some more adversity and hard times. Even though this was supposed to be a time to grieve, my Mother sprung into action AGAIN, like the trooper she is, and immediately began taking care of me. Thats the thing about someone with a genuine, kind heart...they dont think about how to give love and provide care, it just comes automatically and naturally. It cant be bought and it cant be faked. Thats my Mothers truth and at the end of the day, she can now look back knowing that she gave of herself wholeheartedly, to the people she loves. Not many people can say that, especially to themselves, truly mean it, and know it. My Grandmother, Grandfather, Dad and I lucked out, as well as all the other people my Mother has touched and comforted throughout the years, in the career she excelled at. Thats my Mother in a nutshell. If you dont know her, you should get to,....because shes pretty freakin amazing. Mom, thank you for letting me and my doggies have this retreat with you for the past 6 weeks, it was like rehab for the soul. During the ups, downs and all arounds. ..we got this!!! I love you. ..because you love me.
