Monday, 24 June, 2013 KAYIYA RETURNS TO THE NILE SPECIAL NATIONAL OPEN POOL CHAMPIONSHIP FINALE Friday: Jacaranda Wasswa Kayiya 4-2 Meddie Ssekanjako Natete Shopping Center Fahad Sewankambo 4-1 Julius Senabulya Saturday: MM Pub Sharif Ssali 4-2 Collins Kijjambu Password Pub Haruna Byarugaba 4-2 Eric Tamale That Wasswa Kayiya returned to the Nile Special pool national finale was not all that surprising given his current form and class exhibited over years. The talking point was the way he defeated all, but one, of his opponents without dropping a game. The current league top-scorer confirmed his status as a force to contend with this year when he breezed through the preliminary rounds, quarterfinal and semi-final without giving any of his challengers a look in. It was till the final against Meddie Ssekanjako, the 2013 Easter Cup winner, that Kayiya, the 2008 Nile Special Pool National losing finalist, dropped two games but still the confidence garnered from the earlier rounds was enough to carry him safely over the finish line. Elsewhere Fahad Sewankambo defeated Julius Senabulya 4-1 at Natete Shopping Center while Haruna Byarugaba, the captain of Game City Pool Club, overcame Eric Tamale 4-2 at Password Pub, Nankulabye. At MM Pub, Sharif Ssali triumphed 4-2 over Collins Kijjambu. Both finalists from each of the 60 playing centers country-wide qualify for the grand finale. They will be joined by the eight seeded players bringing the total number of participants at the grand finale to 128. Approximately 2500 players are expected to take part in the nationwide tournament. At stake for the playing center winners is a medal, UGX100, 000 and a shoot at the overall winner’s prizes that include a jacket, a car, two pool tables, UGX2M and an opportunity of being the Nile Special Pool brand ambassador for a year.
