Monday, September 22, 2014 Mission Founder Returns to the Field Amidst Unrest and Factional Fighting UGANDA (ANS) -- After nearly 10 months of being home tending to his wife and recovering from a leg injury of his own, Kevin Turner, president and founder of Strategic World Impact (swi.org ) has returned to the mission field to assist SWIs ministry partners at Reaching Africas Unreached (RAU) reachingafricasunreached.org . With Tammy being declared free of cancer, the Lord placed it upon Kevins heart to book a ticket and return to the Ugandan/South Sudan border where RAUs mission compound is located, according to a ministry update. Kevin Turner had to take a light aircraft to fly into the mission field area. (Photo courtesy RAU). Within the past week and just prior to Kevins arrival, the security situation in this region deteriorated rapidly. Tit-for-tat skirmishes between South Sudanese militants and Ugandan troops have led to killings and homes being burned, causing many women, children and families to flee for their lives, SWI news the release stated. On the night of September 19, Turner, along with a small team, had to repel two separate attacks directed at the RAU mission base. Earlier that evening, neighboring homes were set ablaze as Jacob and Carol Lee welcomed in additional families who were fleeing the turmoil, Turner told ANS. At approximately 3:00 am local time, as part of the second attack, the RAU base received incoming machine gun fire. The situation was so dire, I texted an SWI staff member back home stating I was unsure if we were going to make it through the night. By the Grace of God, the attackers fled and daylight came without any injuries or additional incidents, Turner said. The Oklhoma-cased-SWI Team has put toge ther a brief video documenting the events from that night, which can be seen here: youtu.be/_LehKGyzu-w The SWI Team said: While were thankful all involved made it through the night safely, we have now just received word that additional attacks have been planned in the area for tonight and tomorrow. We are requesting special prayer during this time to ensure the safety of Kevin, Jacob and Carol, as well as the entire RAU team and its guests. In addition, according to the media release, as the mission base continues to take in families fleeing violence in the area, the needs to accommodate the growing number of visitors is increasing as well. If you would like to assist SWI in helping to respond, you may visit their support page at swi.org/support-swi/ and use the Africa/RAU tab to donate your gift. These funds will be wired to Kevin and the RAU team as soon as possible, which will enable them to c ontinue responding to this incredibly fluid and dangerous situation, the SWI Team stated. Thank you all in advance for your fervent prayers and support. Please feel free to let us know you will be praying and we will ensure Kevin and others at RAU read your messages of encouragement.
