Monday night, July 28th, at the… Sandbar & Grille in Buxton… We had 21 players including a new registration, a few return players, a caped crusader and myself. Corey Maxa was visiting Hatteras from Charlottesville VA, got a 5K chip to start the game with for registering with the league and Robbie Easley got 2K bonus chips for “Bringing a friend” to play in their first game with us. Terry Herzing, Parc Greene and Dave “Turtle” Ertle were back to play in a FREE Texas Hold ‘Em tournament on the Outer Banks. Welcome to all. The winner took home a $50 Visa Gift Card, second place got a $20 Sandbar & Grille gift card and we had a new player qualify for the HIPL 2014 Island Championship in November. There were three bounties in the game. Alex Bravar and the Dark Knight were the two that did not make it to the final table. The Donkey Shout Out goes to Bald Zack. He got another donkey drink charm to add to his collection for being the first player eliminated from the game. There were three bids for the high hand of the game. Rob Anders starting things off early with an Ace high club flush. Steve “Smiley” Swartwood topped that with the first full house of the night, Queens full of 10s. Bruce Anderson raked a pot after winning a hand with the biggest full house of the night, Aces full of 4s. He banked 2000 bonus chips for winning a hand with the High Hand of the night. The Final Table: Tammy Tinsley made her fourth final table appearance of the season and placed 8th. She has one win this season and moved up one position in the overall point standings to twenty fourth out of 249 players this season… so far. Troy Ahrendt, the 2012 Lounge Champion, made it to his fifteenth final table of the season and placed 7th. He has two wins this season and is third in the overall standings with a thirty seven point lead on Sonny Quidley. He is also tied for the lead in the Lounge points with Alex Bonner. Parc Greene, the 2012 Wins Champion, made it to his fifth final and placed 6th. He has two wins this season and moved up three positions in the standings to a tie with Shaun Dunn and David Tolson for thirty fifth. Robbie Easley, returning to the scene with a friend, made it to his first final table in only his second game with us this season. He placed 5th and was the big mover of the night jumping up sixty six positions to eighty second overall. Rob Anders was the only player to defend a bounty on the way to his thirteenth final of the season and placed 4th. He moved up on spot in the points to a tie with Anton Tkachenko for eighth. Eddie Ochs made it to his seventh final of the season and placed 3rd. He has one win this season and moved up three positions in the standings to tenth, forty points ahead of Steve “Slash” Jones. That left the final table to be settled heads up between Jay “Kurt” Tolson and Dave Ertle. Both Kurt and Turtle were at their fifth final playing for their first win of the season with only fifteen points separating them in the point standings. Kurt already qualified for the championship in November with his second place showing at the 2014 Cesar Cruz Memorial and now Turtle has earned a seat in the Island Championship… 1st or 2nd in any HIPL regular season event. I was dealing and Kayla Charrette was shuffling for me so the hands were moving along at a pretty swift pace. The blinds were 20 and 40K with the clock at ten minute blinds. Kurt was on the button in the small blind position with K-9 off suit and Turtle was the big blind with pocket 6s. Kurt was under the gun and called the big blind. Turtle bet 150K on top and Kurt called. That put one of them all in. Flip ‘em… The flop was 5-J-A… No help for anybody. Turtle’s ahead with a pair of 6s. The turn is a 9… That gives Kurt the lead with a pair of 9s. Turtle needs a 6… 4-5% And the river is a King… Jay Tolson wins the hand with two pair, Kings over 9s, Ace high. Turtle was the one that was all in with his 150K raise on his pocket pair, which wasn’t that bad play… so Kurt won his first game of the season with a total chip count of 410K. He took home the Visa, moved up five spots in the standings to twenty fifth, widened his lead over Turtle to twenty five points and has a one point lead over Smiley. Turtle placed 2nd and got the Sandbar gift card. He also moved up five spots in the standings to a tie with Jennie Harris for twenty seventh. They are twenty four points behind Smiley and only one ahead of Rusty Purser in Ocracoke. We had seven players in the Losers’ Lounge. Corey Maxa, the new guy from VA, scored two bonus points for placing second and a bit of redemption. Kayla Charrette scored five bonus points and banked 2000 bonus chips for winning in the lounge.
