Monrovia Sinks In Garbage Again Garbage is gradually taking over Monrovia and its environs apparently due to weakness on the part of Monrovia City Corporation (MCC) workers. Across streets and commercial areas, dirt can be seen packed not far from the road. One of such is on the Bushrod Island along the Logan Town Rice Store vicinity. Dirt leaves the yellow garbage can and drops almost near the road, thereby causing problem for commuters. Another area hit with the garbage packed near the road syndrome is the Duala market, which is also situated along the Bushrod Island. Sellers in that market are seen eating near the dirt, which might cause the outbreak of cholera and other communicable diseases. According to some of the marketers, the dirt lying at the front of the market is a threat to the health condition of sellers. They revealed that if nothing is done to clear the dirt that is near their market, it might cause problem for them. One of the sellers Madam Jenneh said she has been selling in the market for a long period of time and the issue of dirt being exposed causes serious illness. Madam Jenneh explained that when Madam Mary Broh was the Acting City Mayor of Monrovia, the market was always kept cleaned by MCC workers or its contractors, but since her resignation, Monrovia is returning to being a filthy city. She disclosed that some of the passersby usually hold their noses when approaching where the dirt is often packed. The elderly woman explained that dirt is not cleared on a regular basis by sanitation workers as it was done previously during Madam Broh’s leadership. During a tour of the area, marketers were seen eating not far from the dirt site. Explaining, Emmanuel Johnson said some of his colleagues have fallen ill due to the dirt. Meanwhile, residents of the communities that have huge pile of dirt are calling on the MCC to address their concern before it gets worse.
