Moore Magnet, MCSO kick off KID Deputy program Moore Magnet Elementary School and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office today have teamed up to kick off what they call the KID Deputy program, a first of its kind. “From my first day at Moore Magnet, I felt that I needed to do more for the students,” said SRO for the school, Deputy Tim Adair. “Last year, the administration and I began talks to implement a program that would benefit students, but not impact the academic day.” The result is the KID Deputy program – K stands for knowledge, I stands for integrity and D stands for discipline. Through the four-class program, one every Friday for about 10 students at a time, students will focus on these qualities and learn about law enforcement at the same time. At the first session, students will receive an overview, history of law enforcement and the meaning of the KID acronym. Following sessions will focus on being a good citizen, anti-bullying and drug awareness. “At the end of the four-week sessions, I envision that our students will have a positive perception of law enforcement, it will increase their self esteem and instill positive character traits,” Adair said. “They will serve as role models for other students in the school.” After the four sessions are over, students will receive a certificate and will be allowed to help Adair during awards ceremonies and other events, a prospect that seemed exciting for many of the students. Then, more students will be selected for the next class group and again to total four groups throughout the semester. Sheriff John Fuson was on hand to witness the first class today, and he was pleased with the work Adair put into the program. “He’s doing a great job,” Fuson said. “It’s great to see one of our SROs going above and beyond the call of duty and educating our children, not only about what we do, but how to become better role models for their peers.”
