More News to Share! Whidbey Island Race Week event dates have been expanded to include dinghy racing. The new official event dates for Whidbey Island Race Week are July 18-24, 2015. A race program for boats under 24 feet will be offered Saturday, July 18 and Sunday, July 19, 2015. Races for boats larger than 24 feet will be offered Monday-Friday, July 20-July 24, 2015. In the past 4 years, the perception has been that the dinghy event that happened the weekend prior to Race Week was a separate event altogether having been named Dinghy Whidbey Island (or DWI). So, were rolling the dinghy program into the entire Whidbey Island Race Week experience and this will also help remove any/all negative connotations associated with the acronym, DWI. And by incorporating the dinghy program into the Whidbey Island Race Week events program, the regatta will continue to expand opportunities for a growing youth racing program. Whidbey Island Race Week will issue up to 3 photographer credentials for the event in 2015. This will allow 3 photo boats on the course for the duration of the event. Photo boats will be identified with a pink flag that is visible on the boat. In addition to Steve Lapkin, who has already been named an Official Photographer for 2015, Jan Anderson of Jan’s Marine Photography is also being named an Official Event Photographer at Whidbey Island Race Week in 2015. Jan Anderson has also generously offered to donate proceeds she makes selling her photos from the 2014 Whidbey Island Race Week event to the 2015 Whidbey Island Race Week Kids Camp program so please help us spread the word! And finally, Sunset Kennels in Oak Harbor has been named the Official Doggy (or Kitty) Daycare provider for racers travelling to Whidbey Island Race Week with their four legged friends and family members in 2015. Racers will enjoy pick-up and delivery service at the Oak Harbor Marina each day. Services include plenty of exercise for their pets and additional grooming services will be available. Overnight care will also be available.
