More from the ISET Economist on Georgias traffic disorganization. As we have forcefully argued in the past (An Economist’s Comment on “Dodge or Die” on the Streets of Tbilisi - iset.ge/blog/?p=1903), it is in fact very easy to change the situation. There is nothing cultural about Georgians not stopping at red lights or zebras. If anybody needs any proof of that, please note how wearing seat belts has become an almost religious ritual after the introduction of fines back in 2011 or 2102. All it takes is political will and two months of tough enforcement. Both drivers and pedestrians will make a mental adjustment and switch to a new, much more civilized (and safe) behavior. And, most importantly, the new equilibrium will be stable!!!
