More on Winston Churchill... Did you know he served as a war correspondent during the Boer War (Dutch vs British) in 1899; he was ambushed and captured. He escaped from the Boer prison and returned a national hero. He authored 5 books by the age of 26. Images *With his Brooklyn, New York (USA) born mother, Jenni Jerome, Lady Randolph Churchill, she essentially was the woman behind the boy and young man (he had lost his father, Lord Randolph, too soon) *His wife Clementine (1885-1977) and of their marriage he said My most brilliant achievement was my ability to be able to persuade my wife to marry me. 56 years of a lively marriage, 5 children and she stood by his side. *with King George VI, (Romanov cousin) and hero, along with his wife, Queen Elizabeth (the Queen Mother), shouldered London and the whole of England during one of the most terrifying times in that citys history...The Battle of Britain (early dark days of World War II). On a personal note, my Aunt Pam lived in England at the time (and later became a GI War Bride-she married my Uncle Alexander) and recalled these dark days; her brother Reggie was lost over the English Channel and it was devastating for her family. At King George VI funeral Sir Winston Churchill placed a wreath on his casket that simply read For Valour. https://youtube/watch?v=on4px-GOUbc
