More on the gun grabbers Friday gun violence summit that wasnt. (And a request for your help, below). Following the MN gun grabbers crushing loss to common sense in the last legislative session -- when they attempted to marshal in extremist and punitive gun control measures that sought to punish and burden law abiding gun owners, while doing absolutely nothing to curb gun violence -- the extremist gun grabbers are now swinging wildly and unpredictably in an attempt change the narrative and create a new ruse to use in their next attack on law abiding gun owners in the upcoming MN legislative session. The gun grabbers barred the voices of diversity and common sense from their little echo chamber on Friday, but we gleaned a glimpse inside their planned strategy from a brief piece of audio posted on WCCO from Leroy Duncan of Protect Minnesota on Friday. In the audio clip, Leroy Duncan makes it clear that Protect Minnesota will now try to impugn those of us who support the 2nd Amendment and civil rights as homogenous and isolated, and whose individual rights are trumped by the rights of the collective and the experience of those in the urban center. Which, in translating, means that they are setting up to paint us all as ***white, suburban, out-of-touch males***, and, in doing so, will try to discount, discredit, diminish, and devalue the experiences of anyone who is not a minority living in urban areas of Minnesota. A strategy which also includes ignoring the voices and experiences of those who choose to exercise their 2nd Amendment rights for the purpose of self defense and crime deterrence, including past victims of violent crime and/or domestic abuse. ACTION ITEM: Debunking the new gun grab narrative. Be aware, be visible. As we already know, those of us who support the 2nd Amendment and civil rights are not all ***white, suburban, males***. And even if we were, their attempt to discount and silence any voices that support civil rights amounts to bullying. As Protect Minnesota and their national gun grab partners roll toward the next legislative session, you will see more and more of the above narrative being foisted by them into the local media and being used to push legislation that infringes on individual rights in favor of the collective, and trying to discount the value of our voices and experiences. Its time for ALL of our voices to be heard to debunk that narrative. We need to show the real face of who Minnesota gun owners and permit holders are, and that includes: Urban; suburban; rural; men--sons--brothers--fathers; women--daughters--sisters--moms; young people; college students; senior citizens--grandparents; business people; service workers; volunteers; stay-at-home parents; board members; bicycle riders; transit riders; physically vulnerable; past crime victims; past victims of domestic violence; diverse ethnicities, races, politics and theocracies, etc. Its time to make our mark on the culture, its time to speak up. Its time to debunk the misconceptions of who we are. Pay attention and watch for their skewed narrative to begin playing out in the media. When you see it, call it out, speak up. Post it on this page, contact the media that gave it air time. And, equally as important, start finding ways to have personal conversations in the community that give you the opportunity to share the real face of who Minnesota gun owners are, and share the value of protecting our civil rights. Watch for more to come on this topic.
