More student speakers! Danica Gonzalves * see/hear/experience her on Friday, April 4 @ 2-3:15 Gonzalves is a first-year student at The George Washington University Law School. Her area of interest is in mental health law and advocacy. Raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Gonzalves was home-schooled for much of her education prior to high school. Frequently moving back and forth between California and Utah during her college years, Gonzalves graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Arts in English in 2012. Simultaneously, she held a wide array of jobs, including organizing children’s birthday parties, working as a Zumba instructor, and selling traffic signal equipment. Since moving to Washington, Gonzalves has become involved with GW’s softball team, the Law Revue play series, and the Street Law teaching program. Gonzalves has also been working as an advocate to end chronic homelessness and as a dance instructor. Gonzalves’s interest in mental health stems from personal experiences and their impact on her friends and family. She is in the process of kick-starting a non-profit organization, Anchor with Love, which uses social media to encourage the public to care about mental health. Gonzalves hopes to use her J.D. to pursue a career in mental health advocacy and policy while engaging families and communities in mental health issues.
