More than 30 years ago the top masters of karate ventured the attempt to consolidate all the international karate organizations for a possibility of introducing karate as a new sport at the Olympic Games. As a common idea the unique rules of holding competitions in karate have been worked out. Using the protective equipment, traditional for Japanese martial arts, for full contract combats making karate competitions available for all styles and trends, setting karate free from prejudices and mystifications, making it safe and spectacular. Most of the international karate organizations supported such an idea, seeing in it the only way that could bring karate to unification and, as a result, to the Olympic acknowledgement. The idea was initiated by Eichi Eriguchi – the General secretary of WUKO in that time. The appearance of Koshiki Karate was determined by the objective demands in universal and flexible tournament rules system for karate organizations, practicing different versions of karate. Such kind of flexibility was found in Koshiki karate and imediatelly after establishing World Koshiki Karate Federation (WKKF) karate organizations have decided to arrange the first World tournament. Establishing WKKF the leaders world karate specialist were trying to establish the union of progressive forces and trends in karatedo, but not an another formilized organization. That’s why the executive board of this organization was consisted of leaders and masters of martial arts. The first World championship was arranged in 1981 in Tokyo. Sensei Sigieshi Matzumae – the legend in martial art world was the honorauble president of this tournament. Sensei Sigieshi Matzumae was the President of World Judo Federation, the member of the International Olympic committee, the President of Nihon Budokan Budo Academy, the President of Tokai University. In fact thanks to the work done by Sensei Sigieshi Matzumae judo have become the Olympic kind of sport. Nowadays many organizations around the world are practicing Koshiki karate not being the members of WKKF.
